There is so much to like about this book that it is disappointing because there is so much not to like. The writing is fast paced at times, and at those times I really enjoyed it. However, the last third of the book I found myself bogged down in minutia and description that wasn't necessary and I began turning as much as five to six or more pages just to get back into the action. Also, I found myself being pulled out of the story by the child's vocabulary. Even a precocious seven year old would be struck mute by the violence surrounding her--I don't think she'd be saying 'as if' and bouncing back after events that would terrify adults. Anyway, I gave the book three stars because I liked the characters. I just wish an editor had cut 100 or so pages.Product details

I am now into my 3rd book in less than a week on this series. Andy McNab keeps me intrigued on the edge of my seat and can't put these books down and sometimes I find my self speed reading because i'm in such suspense. I would highly recommend this series and Andy, please keep writing at lightening speed as I don't want to run out of your books.

A few pages of gripping excitement separated my many pages of overly detailed description and useless side trips. Overall I enjoyed it but I doubt I'll be reading any more of this guy's work.
When I started this book I had difficulty understanding many of the terms McNabb uses but the story had such intrigue that as I kept reading it was easier to understand. I became fascinated by the care that Nick Stone took to keep his movements unobtrusive and his nice safe. The deeper I got into the story the harder it was to put down. It is well written and filled with suspense. I want to read more.
From the start of the story, it's obvious McNab is not your typical thriller writer. There's an edge, a brusque matter-of-factness that reflects the the author's military service (much of it with British SAS). The attention to operational detail lends a sense of reality that is rare in other genre writing, yet somehow we don't get bogged down in the minutiae. And the action is brutal and visceral, no movie-style stylized fist-fights, instead there are vicious no-holds-barred fights (realistically, what happens when someone is fighting to stay alive) that frequently leave our hero worse for wear.
Even more unusual for this genre, a child features prominently in the plot, and McNab accurately captures the sense of a non-parent adult trying to cope with a young child, except for one plot twist towards the end where the kid is unrealistically competent (you'll know it when you get there).
If you have discovered McNab via his gripping true story in Bravo Two-zero, his writing has the same quality in fiction. Well worth the read, and you'll probably end up with a bunch of later McNab books on your wishlist, like I did.
This is McNabb at his best..a black ops storyline that is not only fast paced but has twists and turns one after the other. There is murder, betrayal, treason, drug cartels, mafia and dirty officialdom. McNabb shows he has a heart in this one and his characters are well crafted and fit the plot.
I was looking for a 'new' author and started at Book One (1) of his series. My thinking was to continue onwards. I Gave up on page 113 (one third) of the way through.
The most exciting part of "This" Book was the title.....Nothing Happens. The hero (who drops the F Bomb every para) amailessly wonders around with a 7yold Girl for 113 pages!!!
I was waiting for secret Agent "Action".....Nothing. Don't waste your time!!!
