Mercury a planet of two faces – one side cloaked in eternal darkness, the other blistered by eternal sunshine. And balanced between the two is the World River, encircling the globe.
Professor Nathanial Stone and his ward, Annabelle Somerset visit Mercury for what they imagine will be a pleasant trip to visit Annabelle’s uncle.
But tragic death precedes them – a death that provokes a chain of mysterious and terrifying events that challenge Nathanial and Annabelle’s long-held beliefs. Before long, they – with the assistance of French geologist, Arnaud Fontaine – discover something ancient and powerful that has designs on humanity.

Having the read the first two Space 1889 e-books and having enjoyed them I decided to purchase the third installment. I was a bit put off with the price being double what the previous two books were but it was still a reasonable price for a good read. Ghosts of Mercury was however not a good read. The tale itself lacked direction and action. The author spent way too much time on philosophical discussions but never really doing much with them. If you like a bit of action with your Victorian Science Fiction you'll be sorely disapointed. The book was also a bit preachy with a humanistic slant. The story feels like one of those old Star Trek the Next Generation episodes that tried to get philosophical but failed. I truely hope the next installment gets back to VSF style adventure.Product details

Ghosts of Mercury Space 1889 Beyond Book 3 eBook Mark Michalowski Reviews
The third story in the Space 1889 series is a marvelous one that delves into the challenges of religion, science, life and death. Probably the best and most original of the series so far, I enjoyed the feeling of dealing with characters being challenged with events beyond their knowledge and dealing with the results of their actions. I highly recommend this unusual story.
This is the third in a series of Space 1889 books following the adventures of Nathanial and Annabelle. Each has been a delight. This one was as well, but a bit slower paced than the first two and with a story I would not have been shocked to find on Star Trek. This doesn't mean it was not well written, and certainly I enjoyed it, but not to quite the extent of the others in the series.
However, having already read the next book, I know that if this is the worst, then the series as a whole is certainly wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend this one, but only if the reader has read the first two already.
